Firing pottery with wood as the main fuel is a very labor - intensive task requiring several around the clock days feeding the kiln with wood. There is a strong social component in that it takes a team of potters to make, load, and team the shifts during the firing. The following pieces have been fired in a wood-fired kiln called the “Highlander”. It is located on my brother-in-law’s farm near Ligonier, PA.
